Yielding Into Support

Led by Robin Gilmore
Support
is all around us and within our bodymind. Where gravity meets the planet, we
naturally rise to meet the environment. Our earliest reflexes stimulate muscle
tone by simply yielding into contact. That contact can be with any surface or
another person. We gradually gain the ability to move away from surface contact
and mobilize through space. As adults, we may have habits of bracing or using
too much effort in an attempt to “find” support. We can let go and reconnect
with the underlying support that is always there for us. In practicing mindful
“non-doing,” we learn to move with ease and efficiency, returning to the
coordinated balance that is our birthright.
Please
bring a yoga mat or blanket so that you will be comfortable sitting or lying
on the floor. Also
bring a book to place under your head. We will begin in relative
stillness and tap into simple movements that evolve from yielding into support.
The journey from the ground to standing and walking can be the exploration of a
lifetime.
